Pet Anesthesia at SurgiPet Center

Pet anesthesia is an essential part of vet surgery. It puts your pets safely to sleep so that they don’t feel any pain during the procedure. Here’s everything you need to know.

Dog Anesthesia at SurgiPet

Anesthesia for dogs involves a careful combination of drugs to ensure the safest possible surgery. First, your pup will be provided with pain relief medication and a light sedative. Once they are nice and relaxed, our expert anesthesiologist will gently send them to sleep with an injected anesthetic.

Once unconscious, our skilled specialists will insert a breathing tube to deliver a steady flow of anesthetic gas throughout the surgery. While the surgery is taking place, the surgeon is supported by a team of professionals to help maintain your dog’s normal body temperature and monitor essential metrics such as heart rate, blood pressure, and oxygen levels.

Side Effects of Anesthesia in Dogs

If your dog is whining after surgery, don’t worry. This is a common side effect of the anesthesia wearing off. Just like humans, dogs are also prone to grogginess following an operation and may seem a little disorientated or off-balance on your return home. Create a warm, cozy spot at home for them to rest in while the drugs wear off.

Cat Anesthesia

Cat anesthesia is essentially exactly the same as dog anesthesia. Your feline friend will be carefully sedated before being injected with a short-acting anesthetic. Our talented team will ensure his or her safety throughout the procedure with careful monitoring, using special technology to maintain normal body temperature. A ventilator supports breathing if necessary, while an IV drip keeps pets hydrated and administers any necessary drugs.

Anesthesia in Cats Side Effects

It is normal for cats to appear groggy and fatigued following surgery. Cats are sensitive animals who do not like disruptions to their routine. They may act out aggressively following an operation, or appear more clingy or vocal than normal. All of this is perfectly common and nothing to worry about.

Support and Aftercare

After your pet’s operation, they will be moved to the recovery area, where they will be attended to by trained professionals until they are fully awake. We will continue to take their temperature and monitor essential metrics until they are comfortable enough to return home.
